Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). A minimum of two years of directly related full-time administrative experience to include working with non-profit, academic or student services related field (student work experience may be considered). Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Experience working with students from historically marginalized groups. Highly developed interpersonal, writing, analytical, communication and presentation skills/abilities. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience in advising, counseling and or collegiate academic success initiatives. Familiarity with interfacing with academic departments and working with administration policies/procedures at a large college or university. Experience planning and executing events. Experience with recruiting students at high school visits and/or college fairs. Proficiency in Spanish.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Recruitment Coordinator & Academic Advisor is responsible for advising and recruiting a pool of appropriate undergrad students, within an aggressive undergraduate student recruitment and outreach plan, for the Stony Brook Simons STEM Scholars Program. The Recruitment and Special Programs Coordinator will conduct information sessions for prospective students, parents and school counselors, as well as coordinate yield initiatives and events to impact enrollment. This position is part of the Stony Brook Simons STEM Scholars Program, an exciting new initiative that will provide a training ground for 50 students each year to create the next generation of diverse leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and will vastly improve the pathway to STEM careers for underrepresented students at Stony Brook University.

Duties:

  • Recruitment:
    • Assists in the development of a recruitment strategy, travels to local and national high schools to spread program information, develops recruitment materials, coordinates selection weekend, serves as primary liaison to admissions, attends enrollment and retention management quarterly meetings as well as maintains active communication with admissions department and attends meetings as needed.
    • Partners with In-State admissions recruiter to assist with large scale events and high school visits as needed.
    • Manages coordination of Slate in relation to admission of students.
    • Successfully matriculate a cohort annually.
  • Academic Advising:
    • Successfully fosters a positive and active learning community for scholars.
    • Mentors and coaches scholars through academic advising in one-on-one and group settings.
    • Monitors individual academic progress and probation meetings. Facilitates seminar series, workshops and trainings that support students' personal development, academic success.
  • Special Events Coordination:
    • Puts together event spaces, purchase orders, faculty involvement, volunteer involvement, catering and other event related needs.
    • Sets up lasting partnerships to ease use for following years.
    • Creates the recommended annual strategy report for our special events.
    • Facilitates documentation of process prior to induction of next class search cycle.
  • Summer Bridge:
    • Assists as second lead for Summer Bridge facilitation.
    • Steps into lead role when lead is out for various circumstances.
    • Provides general assistance where requested by Summer Bridge Coordinator.
  • Family Outreach:
    • Serves as the primary advocate and spokesperson for the students when it comes to family outreach, ensures close relationships with family and the program are built and maintained.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Notes:

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
